Motherhood: the Dichotomy of Agony and Ecstasy

The moment I knew I was going to be a mother, my life changed. Things that I never thought twice about before suddenly became real, sometimes terrifying – a stranger walking quickly towards your babes . And small things that would make me smile suddenly filled my heart with delight – their first trip to Disneyland. Other things that had become mundane and simple were suddenly morphed into challenging and complex – going to the grocery store with two small children in tow.

As mothers, our lives are forever changed. I’m not the same person I was before them or even before the last one. They quickly grow up and grow us along with them. And for that, I thank my children – thank you Lord for my blessings.

May the days your babies completely fill your heart & soul with joy be more than the ones where they completely drain you!

Happy Mother’s Day

Beautiful Family on Shell Beach, La Jolla {San Diego Photographer}

I just loved spending time with this family. Beautiful weather, beautiful beach, AND a beautiful pregnant mommy & her gorgeous family on the beach – that’s why I love my job!  And these little girls were so much fun to play with, we ran around, we laughed, and had a great time. Their youngest was just about to turn one and soon after this session they became a family of 5 – some important moments in time!

I love being a part of a such special time in a family’s journey!

Family Beach Session, La Jolla {San Diego Photographer}

I just love this family!

They’re so easy to work with and have the cutest little guy. We had great weather and it was an awesome morning. I’m honored that they would include me in their vacation to San Diego. I love it when I get to see my littlest clients go grow up through my lens.

This is one of my favorites spots … hope you’ll see why. Enjoy!

Kowanetz Family at Scripps Park, La Jolla {San Diego Photographer}

Here’s another family you’ve seen a few times on my blog! I’ve done more than a couple of sessions for them and they just keep getting better!

And this was a special trip out for them because we did a Maternity Session too! Yay, congrats!! I’ll post those shots on another blog post soon. We got SO many great shots during this session – I was so excited for them to see their proofs!

I’d like to thank the Kowanetz family for coming out for pictures.  They’re such a nice family to work with and at one of my favorite locations – awesome!

Here are some of my favorites …

Hardins at Scripps Park, La Jolla {San Diego Photographer}

I’m so fortunate that my Arizona clients think of me when they vacation in San Diego & the OC!

I’ve shot this family a few times, since before the little one could crawl I think! And I just love that they not only keep coming back for more – but refer their friends! It was a gorgeous at a gorgeous location with a gorgeous family to match! How could a photographer ask for more?! We ran around until the girls (and me!) were totally spent … it was so much fun! And I know I say it every time, but I honestly think these little girls are cuter every time I get the see them!

Some Years Are Painfully Long

When I was asked to do this session last year, after finding out how many people would be involved, I was almost too afraid to accept! Up to that point, I had never done photos for a group this large … how long would it take? Can I corral that many in 1 shot? and HOW many kids?! It was overwhelming. But I’m way too fond of this particular family to NOT give it a try! I’m forever blessed for having spent the time with them. It was a beautiful day, the family was obviously enjoying each other, everyone was smiling.

Less than 2 months later, they tragically lost their father. He was a cornerstone of the who they are, he was a husband, a father, a father to those that didn’t have one, and a friend to all of us.

Its been a painful year of change, adjustment, and sorrow but I’m glad to say this family hasn’t  forgotten a single happy moment spent with him. And my tears are for selfish reasons because I know he looks proudly down on each them from heaven. … and I’ll always hear “Come & eat” in my head when I see his face :)

Today is a 1 year anniversary of a life that deserves to be celebrated.

Family Fun at the Park

Some of you may recognize this family by the little cutie they’ve got!

This was a FUN session, we didn’t have any agenda. It was just a “play with the baby” afternoon. The weather was perfect and we all had a great time.

They were one of my very 1st families I photographed. It’s been my pleasure to capture some of their family moments a few times since then! Special thanks to them for seeing something in me from the start … and then come back for more! THANK YOU! :)

On the Paradise Point Resort

It had been a long time since I had a shoot at the Paradise Point Resort. We stayed there last year so I was so excited when this family agreed to let me pick the location – I had some spots in mind already! I had only used the beach there, so it was nice to use some of the beautiful spots within the resort. We had so much fun playing with the boys and it turned out to be a beautiful morning!

At the Ranch

This was a fun session with a great family. I don’t think these boys had ever been to this location, they seemed to really enjoy it. They were so cute just exploring and having the best time! I’m so glad I was able to squeeze this late minute session into my schedule for this trip!

Thanks to the Dumas Family for hanging out with me.
